The magic of making / and washing away…

I find that making is usually the way to find answers, and there is something special that happens when you make with the understanding that impermanence is built into your piece. Chalk unlocks whimsy and forces me to remember, everything will run its course. I won’t get to control how this drawing changes, when it gets erased, how it’s interacted with.

When my brain is churning and I feel a deep dissatisfaction that I can’t place, going to “wash away art” as I like to call it makes processing less intense. Reminding myself to take things one step at a time and to be present in this moment. To revel in the small moments of magic that keep my life force and soul running. Play is important.

Play isn’t lead by productivity, by deliverables and deadlines. Play is usually one of the things we are told is for children, “grow up” is thrown around with vigor but, playing is grown up. Playing is nourishment for our souls.

next time you’re feeling like your brain is full or your soul is heavy, or even just you need a moment, I implore you to find a way to play. Remind yourself of magic, bring yourself an opportunity to find gratitude and wonder in the small things.
